What is a Swedish Massage?
A massage technique that forms the foundation for other Western style massages such as the Sports Massage and Aromatherapy Massage. The Swedish Massage is based on the concepts of anatomy and physiology.
It is designed to disperse physical tension from the body by loosening tight muscles, reducing stiffness, removing energy blockages and increasing blood and lymph circulation. This type of massage is recommended for beginners.
The Swedish Massage combines five soft tissue manipulation techniques: Effleurage (long, gliding strokes), Petri sage (kneading strokes), Friction (deep circular rubbing), Tapotement (tapping), and Vibration (fine, rapid shaking movements).
These movements warm up the muscle tissue, releasing tension and gradually breaking up muscle “knots” or adhered tissues. The massage can be slow and gentle, or vigorous and bracing, it is entirely up to you.
The health benefits of the Swedish massage follows the improved blood circulation, which helps you feel more energetic as the flow of nutrient-rich oxygen is increased throughout the muscles of your body. You will also have a more stimulated lymphatic system which helps improve your immune system while cleaning and nourishing all the cells in your body.
